“The Legislative Committee seeks to marshal the political influence of the Mayors Caucus on the issues that affect every town and every resident in our six-county region.”

-- Nicholas B. Blase, President, Village of Niles, and Chair, Mayors Caucus Legislative Committee
One of the very first committees established by the Mayors Caucus was the Legislative Committee. This Committee has the important responsibility for making recommendations to the Caucus on the legislative priorities, which should be addressed annually. On critical legislative issues, the Committee also tries to leverage the political influence of the region’s mayors to raise quality of life and improve the well being of everyone in the Chicago region.

Over the past four years, we’ve witnessed several important successes, including the deregulation of electric markets; the passage of Illinois FIRST, the largest public infrastructure funding program in Illinois history; a rewrite of the state’s telecommunications tax laws; and the reestablishment of a regional Coast Guard station on Lake Michigan. We also worked together to protect the municipal share of the state income tax in the face of the State’s recent budget crisis. Much has been done to date and even more will be done tomorrow.
